About the artist : Bartolome Luzanquis was born in Cajamarca, Peru, in 1963. He emigrated to Piura, in northern Peru where he became an apprentice under the master artist Augusto de los Rios. After 3 years of very demanding work with de los Rios, Luzanquis moved to Lima to work in the atelier of Jorge Arribasplata, a superb still-life painter. He then rounded out his education by joining the studio of Ladislao Plasencki for two more years. Luzanquis’ still-lifes are exquisite creations with intricate detail and complex compositions, reminiscent of the great Dutch masters.
