Born on March 10, 1930, in Lima, Peru, Garcel developed a passion for art and design at an early age. He began his formal education in architecture at the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería in Lima but soon realized that his true passion lay in furniture design and decided to pursue it as a career. He traveled to Europe to study under the guidance of esteemed designers and master craftsmen, honing his skills and expanding his knowledge of traditional and contemporary design techniques.
In the late 1950s, Garcel returned to Peru and established his own furniture workshop, where he started creating unique and exquisite pieces that blended traditional Colombian craftsmanship with modern design elements.
