About the designer:
Neal Small, born in New York City in 1937, earned the moniker "Prince of Plastic" for his groundbreaking use of materials like Plexiglas and Lucite in crafting furniture, lighting, home accessories, and sculptures. In the mid-1960s, he established Neal Small Designs on West 24th Street in Chelsea, where he produced and marketed his innovative creations to esteemed retailers like Bloomingdale’s, B. Altman & Co, W & J Sloan, and Scarabaeus. Over the course of his career, Small garnered nine Excellence of Design awards from Industrial Design Magazine, in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as The Smithsonian Institution, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. His work graces prominent collections including those of The Museum of Modern Art, The Smithsonian Institution, and the Walker Art Center. Currently, Small resides and practices his artistry in rural Maine.
