About the artist : Otto Rudolf Hessler (German, 1858–c.1942) was a painter trained in the academic tradition, born in Leipzig in 1858. He studied at the art academies in Leipzig and Karlsruhe, where he became a pupil of the noted painter Ferdinand Keller. Like many artists of his generation, Hessler likely traveled to major artistic centers such as Munich, Paris, and Italy, absorbing influences that shaped his style. His oeuvre includes genre scenes, landscapes, figure compositions, and still lifes, all characterized by careful modeling, balanced compositions, and refined use of light and color. Works attributed to Hessler are signed in variations such as “H. Hessler” or “O.R. Hessler,” or " Hessler" . His works have maintained a steady presence at auction, appearing regularly in European and international sales. . Hessler is believed to have died around 1942, leaving behind a body of work that reflects the enduring appeal of late 19th- and early 20th-century academic realism.
