Still Life Violin & Sheet Music Oil on Canvas Signed Hessler, Framed 1900's
Still Life Violin & Sheet Music Oil on Canvas Signed Hessler, Framed : A finely rendered trompe-l’Œil still life attributed to Otto Rudolf Hessler ( German 1856- 1942) depicting a violin resting across an open book of sheet music, accompanied by a leather-bound volume, a rolled manuscript, and additional papers arranged upon a dark tabletop. Executed with remarkable attention to detail, the composition captures the textures of polished wood, aged paper, and gilt bindings with striking realism. This work reflects the academic realist tradition of late 19th- and early 20th-century Germany, where Hessler is known to have produced similarly meticulous still lifes. The dramatic contrast of the illuminated objects against the shadowed background enhances the sense of depth, while the subject matter—musical instruments and books—conveys both cultural refinement and the quiet poetry of study. Oil on canvas, signed “Hessler” lower right. Attributed to Otto Rudolf Hessler (1856–1942). Presented in an ornate period-style giltwood frame.
