About the artist : Howard Chandler Christy (1873–1952) was an American illustrator and painter best known for his romantic depictions of elegant women, often referred to as the “Christy Girl.” Rising to prominence during the Spanish–American War for his wartime illustrations, Christy became one of the most celebrated illustrators of the early 20th century. His work appeared in major publications such as Harper’s Weekly, Collier’s, and The Saturday Evening Post. Christy later transitioned into portraiture, painting prominent figures including presidents and social elites. He is also known for his large-scale historical works, most notably The Signing of the Constitution displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
